    Derek, I’m interested in how you square the lost generation idea with the relative success of iTunes.

    Orin: I may not have explained this well. I don’t mean that this generation is unwilling to pay for content. In fact, I think they are increasingly so, particularly if they feel a connection to the artist(s). (While it may not be a replicable model, Radiohead’s “In Rainbows” method at least conveys the concept.) Rather, I was emphasizing that there is a visceral mistrust of Hollywood.

    It helps iTunes particularly that it isn’t a Hollywood product – it’s a Silicon Valley one. This significantly irritates the music industry.
