You’re lucky to have lap-cats; mine keeps coming in, tapping my elbow and meowing at me so that I leave the keyboard and join her to play or watch TV in the next room.

I’m researching a book about whether economic growth is always a good or necessary thing, particularly for Japan; researching a magazine article about quantification and management; preparing the official launch next month of the first foreign business law practice in Japan based north of Tokyo; and battening down with various pickled foods for the 4-day national shutdown known as New Year’s.

Today I’m working some on the last substantive chapter of my dissertation so that I can, with luck, defend it early in the spring. In a couple of days I’ll be going down to Philadelphia for the Eastern American Philosophical Association meeting, coming back to New York City in time for the New Year and a New Year’s Day performance of _The Magic Flute_ at the Met as one of my New Years presents for my wife.

I’m taking advantage of the quiet. I’m working on a startup that cracks down on Internet fraud* (spam, identity theft, etc.) via follow-the-money litigation and reputation scoring. Which is why I started reading your blog in the first place: I’m a privacy fanatic, and it’s important to do it right.

Cat can’t jump into my lap, ‘cos he’s got three legs, but he won’t shut up till I put him there, so same problem as Michael. And I just ordered a copy of _The Future of Reputation_, so this blog post is now revenue-positive. Three cheers for Amazon Prime.

* I cannot bring myself to say “cyberfraud” or “cybercrime” without cracking up. It’s a problem.

I’ll bite and go first. I’ve spent today reading Solove’s “The Future of Reputation” (signed when he spoke at Case last year) and it would be going much quicker if I didn’t keep pausing to look up the references, blogs, and other items mentioned online. Well, that and the cat keeps jumping onto my lap, which makes it more difficult to read.
