In a way, I think Clinton was right about her candidacy, despite its second-place showing, helping shatter the glass ceiling; my daughter's first memory of "people who could be president" were one elderly white guy, a woman, and an African-American man." I also think that with the number of high-profile political women exploding in the past 6 years or so, I easily could see muleiple serious female candidates the next time there's a primary -- on the dem side, Claire McCaskill, Amy Klobuchar, Janet Napolitano, and Kathleen Sebelius all were very impressive in speaking out nationally this past election, and any could be a very plausible canaidate. In other words, I think we're past the days when there was at most one pioneering woman per primary who could be a longshot candidate (Pat Schroeder '88, Elizabeth Dole 2000, etc.). But Obama's election makes a better case that any little <i>boy</i> can be whatever he wants to be and do whatever he wants to do, at least in the US.
