<description>One difference between the S&amp;L collapse of the 1980s and the situation today may eventually be erased wih time. Who knows, maybe in the future we&#039;ll be on the verge of electing a public official as President who was a member of a modern-day &quot;Keating Five&quot;...

I enjoyed these comments a lot, especially ##1 and 2. Were these not for attribution, Frank, or can you reveal your source?

<description>What is the difference between the Savings and Loans collapse of the eighties and the lending practices of today?

The only real difference I can see is the amount of money is much larger and many more people seem to be involved including congress.

In the eighties we prosecuted the leaders and sent them to jail instead of rewarding them with high severance pay checks.

Why are we going after them just like Enron executives? They new they were doing wrong and continued to do it.

If the government does Ok the monies to these banks and they will, the first thing the congress should do is take the overseeing of the process out of a sing hand and place it into departmental hand like the IRS, Treasury and send in the accountants.

Since the taxpayers own it the money should be returned to the tax base from where it came.
