		<description>The pained letter from the Berkeley professor at Leiter Reports is laughable.  Berkeley SHOULD take a reputational hit for harboring Yoo, because it&#039;s a cynical move to protect their right flank.  To say that the left should still adore them for valiantly defending &quot;academic freedom,&quot; while they&#039;re doing something driven by the need to cultivate rightwing politicians, is to try to have their cake and eat it too.

After the Solomon Amendment case, colleges learned that rightwingers would try to defund them if they didn&#039;t &quot;snap to&quot; the rightwing program.  So let&#039;s just recognize this as a concession by Berkeley to the right.
