My New Book’s Snazzy New Website

Very soon, my new book, The Future of Reputation: Gossip, Rumor, and Privacy on the Internet , will be out in print. In anticipation of the book’s launch, my research assistant Ben Shapiro helped me design a snazzy new website for the book. A few of the elements are my ideas, but by and large, the site is the product of Ben’s computer wizardry. Thanks, Ben.
The book is my attempt to address some of the issues I’ve been blogging about for the past few years. It is written for a general audience, as I think that these issues have broad appeal. I’m really excited about this book, and so I will not be able to resist writing about it more when it is out.
I also am quite pleased with the new cover. The old cover design is to the left. The new one is to the right.
Creating the cover was quite a lengthy and difficult process — almost harder than writing the book! Yale University Press allowed me to have a lot of input on the cover design, and I’m the one to blame for the image and color scheme. So I hope you like it. And I hope you check out the website to see Ben’s terrific work.

Both covers are pretty good. But the part I don’t get is, why is Captain Picard so upset?

Ha! about the Picard comments.
To my eyes, the old cover looks like a throwback to the 80s, trying too hard to be futuristic. The new one looks great–clean and modern. Nicely done!

I agree. I like the visual cue of the flashplayer plugin, a la YouTube. I don’t know why they chose a bald guy (to signify cringe assoc. with generation gap?), but now I will always think of Jean Luc Picard when I see your book on the shelves. Well, better him than those that got dragged down with Jessica Cutler.
The other one is too bits and bytes. I protest forced binary constructs, since I’m, like, you know, po-mo and stuff.
