and compare his perspective to those of the &quot;hard fantasy&quot; authors you talked about.  Dolan says the most valuable thing about Tolkien&#039;s imaginative world is precisely what&#039;s sublime -- &quot;&lt;i&gt;high, difficult, and anti-real&lt;/i&gt;&quot; -- about it.

Dolan, incidentally, is brilliant and nuts.  &lt;i&gt;Cf.&lt;/i&gt; his article &quot;The Case for Nuclear Winter.&quot;
