Several female law professors have launched a new blog, IntLawGrrls. From the introductory post:
With great pride and joy we announce the birth, on this 3d day of the 3d month — Girls’ Day in Japan — of the newest arrival in the blogosphere.IntLawGrrls joins a world where cultures, ideas, and markets commingle, where humanity reveals both its best promise and its worst underside. It is a world where women act, as prime ministers or ministers of state (Angela Merkel and Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, Condoleezza Rice and Patricia Espinosa Cantellano, to name a very few), as lawmakers (Nancy Pelosi), as judges (Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Beverley McLachlin, Rosalyn Higgins and Françoise Tulkens), and as advocates, in international organizations (Louise Arbour and Margaret Chan) and in society at large (Shirin Ebadi and Wangari Muta Maathai, Rigoberta Menchú and Aung San Suu Kyi). It is our hope through IntLawGrrls to strengthen our voices as we continue to teach and work in international law, policy, practice.
In our brief but fruitful gestation, IntLawGrrls gave voice to all kinds of issues: counterterrorism and corruption, a tempest in tennis, gay rights and Guinean unrest. We promise more of the same, and more of what is different, as our new arrival matures.
We embrace names of foremothers in the hope they will inspire crisp yet care-full commentary, delivered at times with a dash of sass. As we grow you’ll need to click the “voices” at right to find out who we are. We are happy today to claim IntLawGrrls’ parentage so far:
