I’m sure glad this gig doesn’t pay

It would be nice if the blog could bankroll a lavish lifestyle, of course. But blog poverty does insulate us from having to register as lobbyists under the wacky new proposed lobbying legislation. From the CNET article:
One section [of the proposed legislation] says that certain political bloggers who make or spend $25,000 per quarter and who encourage readers to contact their elected representatives would be forced to register as lobbyists–or face up to 10 years in prison.
Fortunately, it’s just a proposal so far, and one that may soon die. Senator Robert Bennett (R-Utah) is seeking to strip that section from the bill. I suggest that you contact your senator and ask them to support Bennett’s amendment. In the meantime, please don’t send us any money.
