Fun With SSRN Law School Rankings

posted by Dave Hoffman

The latest SSRN’s Top Law School Rankings (based on new downloads) is up. I thought it would be fun to list the top fifty schools according to SSRN, taking out non-US schools from the mix. In rank order, the list follows after the jump.

Harvard University – Harvard Law School

Columbia University – Columbia Law School

University of Chicago – Law School

University of Texas at Austin – School of Law

University of California, Los Angeles – School of Law

Stanford Law School

Yale University – Law School

George Washington University – Law School

University of Illinois College of Law

Georgetown University Law Center

Vanderbilt University – School of Law

University of Minnesota – Twin Cities – School of Law

New York University – School of Law

George Mason University – School of Law

University of California, Berkeley – School of Law (Boalt Hall)

University of Southern California – Law School

University of Pennsylvania – School of Law

Ohio State University – Michael E. Moritz College of Law

Boston University – School of Law

University of San Diego – School of Law

Duke University – School of Law

University of Michigan at Ann Arbor – Law School

Florida State University – College of Law

Northwestern University – School of Law

Boston College – Law School

Emory University – School of Law

University of Virginia – School of Law

Fordham University – School of Law

Cornell University – School of Law

Indiana University School of Law-Bloomington

Yeshiva University – Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law

Michigan State University – College of Law

Loyola Marymount University – Loyola Law School Los Angeles

Case Western Reserve University – School of Law

University of Cincinnati – College of Law

University of Iowa, College of Law

New York Law School

Temple University – James E. Beasley School of Law

Washington University, St. Louis – School of Law

University of Wisconsin Law School

Brooklyn Law School

Notre Dame Law School

University of Tennessee, Knoxville – College of Law

University of Maryland – School of Law

University of Colorado Law School

Northern Kentucky University – Salmon P. Chase College of Law

University of Utah – S.J. Quinney College of Law

University of Arizona – James E. Rogers College of Law

Marquette University – Law School

Hofstra University – School of Law

Incidentally, I bet there is a highly significant correlation between a given positive difference between this list and the USWR rankings and whether a school has started a SSRN legal research paper series.

[Update: A minor correction above - taking out one additional non-US school, results in an addition to the list.]

[A Second Update: Check out Al Brophy's complete exploration of these data here.]

Does this take into account the relative sizes of the student bodies and faculties? Failure to account for that would skew the list quite a bit.
