Entrepreneurs Gone Wild
posted by Dave Hoffman
Via Gordon Smith, I read this article about “Girls Gone Wild” founder Joe Francis. Basically, he comes off as a potentially criminal 33-year-old-slimeball, who is overly happy about being marginally smarter than very drunk 18-year olds:
“My favorite is explaining to dumb chicks why the qwerty keyboard is called a qwerty keyboard, and why the letters aren’t in order,” [Francis] tells [the reporter]. “They’re, like, 18 years old, and they’re, like, ‘Wait a minute, there were typewriters?’ And you got to start there.”
It’s an article that’s worth reading, I think, because it reminds you that (1) business success has nothing to do with being a decent human being; (2) it is a mistake to physically assault a journalist doing a news story on you; (3) pornographers’ strategic veneration of the first amendment exceeds all others.

Dear god. That article is so horrifying in so many ways. It’s a pure infusion of all the dark, seamy, violent, stupid, brutish, nasty facets of the human spirit.

Bush Takes Feminism Down Another Peg
If you didn’t see the President’s whole press conference on Lebanon yesterday, you missed him unconsciously (as usual) deal feminism another blow.
Throughout the press conference Bush repeatedly referred to his Secretary of State as “Condi” to answer a question about the proposed U.N. ceasefire resolution whenever he couldn’t answer a question. You can imagine how many times he did it since it appeared he hadn’t read it.
Many people will think, ‘Well, they’re close friends, so what?’ True, but have you ever heard him address any of his other male cabinet members in public as “Dick”, “Don”, or “Al”? They are all referred to by their title and last name. And he’s good friends with Dick, Don, and Al too.
Small point, considering the Francis article, but so disrespectful

I like how he alternates between odes to the First Amendment (on dubious claims) and threatening to sue reporters who say badd stuff ’bout him. Apparently, pornographers aren’t models of intellectual consistency — who knew?
