Bringing the Dog to the Office
posted by Miriam Cherry
Okay, since I’m on a roll, one last dog blog. Back at Cumberland, I used to bring my havanese, Winnie, to work with me from time to time. Mostly, I brought her when I held student conferences about exams. The students liked her, she licked them, and, perhaps because of her overall calming influence, these conferences (which tend to be somewhat tense, since students inevitably think their grades should be higher) went much more smoothly. Would bringing your pet to the office earn you praise from your colleagues or send you to the doghouse?

That’s really unfortunate for someone like me. I get really uncomfortable around dogs. I think that if a dog was present at a high-stress event like an exam conference, I’d crack.
Poor us dog haters. We’re so marginalized in society.

I can personally verify that Bichon’s anywhere produce a calm feeling in almost eveyone they contact. I have 2 Therapy Bichons( 9yo)and all our visits are anxiously awaited.

No, I’m with David, and a Bichon still would set me on edge.
Personally I am not a fan of being licked or sniffed, and would find it very unpleasant to be forced to endure it.

I have a “coton de tuléar” who is the same type as a bichon. I bring her from time to time to the office and mostly at the request of colleagues. I had 2 colleagues who are dog phobic and did not want to touch not get close to the dog (who is small and furry). sometimes, the dog just go and sleep at the dog phobics office, without really approaching my colleagues.
Now (after 2 years), one of my dog phobic colleague is getting a dog for herself and the other one is the happiest when I bring my dog to the office. This latter now said that actually my dog is not a dog that’s why he likes her.
