I would love to know if there have been any real studies of how the blackberry has impacted on workplace.

In my husband's case, it will not relief him of one minute of "butt on the chair" time in the office. It is just another way to wring out more hours of work out of him. No longer will get an hour to read on the bus. No longer can he have two days off. This isn't any movie version of Wall Street; this is the real thing.

Blackberry aside. Is flexibility really good for families? One of the things about working for yourself or keeping your own hours is that you tend to work more. You never leave your work head in the office. You may be physically at home, but your mind might not be there.

A decent response, Nate, though I think (of course!) an insufficient one. Feel free to enjoy more of that "imaginary world of unremittingly eeeveel corporations created by humanities majors" here. (Though I was a social science major. And I've never seen Wall Street. I have read the book though.)

You can download email applciations that are much nicer AND cheaper than the crackberry on your phone... examples are Vemail (http://www.vemail.com) and Intellisync. Crackberry has just done a great job of marketing an inferior product.
